Be aware that this information has changed to reflect technological changes. The advice was that you can collect small hard plastics inside a clear or opaque bottle (fill the bottle up before putting it into the recycling bin). This was pulled out by hand and sent to Plastics Recyclers Australia for recycling as mixed plastics. The MRF that recycles your materials has upgraded to a robot that is very efficient but can’t deal with bottles of mixed materials. For this reason, any plastic lids should stay on plastic bottles, unless you’re taking them to a CDL/10c collection depot, who for safety reasons need the lids removed.
