What The HEC | Give a Sheet for the Planet

Join the eco-revolution by recycling your old, unwanted household linens at the Adelaide Hills Council Southern Works Depot on Saturday, May 25. This Adelaide wide initiative marks an Australian first in textile recycling, aiming to reduce waste and promote sustainability in our communities.

The Adelaide Hills Council has partnered with Green Industries SA and BlockTexx to offer this free textile recycling event for clean and sorted old bathroom, bedroom and kitchen linen.

The event will run from 9 am to 3 pm on Saturday 25 May, with eight sites open to all South Australian residents.

For residents in the Adelaide Hills Council area, your nearest drop-off point will be at the Adelaide Hills Council Southern Works Depot, 32 Scott Creek Road (entry via Brick Kiln Road), Heathfield SA 5153.

There will be eight deposit sites open across Adelaide, and all types of pure and blended polyester and cotton linen can be dropped off at any of these locations. View the locations.

Types of linen that will be accepted on the day include:

  • Bathroom linen – face cloths, hand towels, and bath towels and sheets
  • Bed linen – bed sheets (flat and fitted), quilt and doona covers, pillow cases and bedspreads
  • Kitchen linen – tea towels, fabric napkins and tablecloths

Did you know that when textiles end up in landfill, they breakdown to form methane which has 28 times greater global warming potential than carbon dioxide and is 84 times more potent on a 20-year timescale.

This event provides an opportunity for conscientious citizens to contribute to environmental preservation by responsibly disposing of textiles. Let’s give a sheet for the planet and make a positive impact on our environment, one fabric at a time!
